From Hanson Bay to Doctorate: Congratulations Dr. Kondo

We are proud to congratulate Kotaro Kondo on successfully completing his doctoral work in koala biology - now officially Dr. Kondo. It has been a pleasure to support and follow his important research journey here at Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, and we wish him all the best for the future.
We were also delighted to welcome Dr. Hinako Katsushima, Special Appointed Assistant Professor at Hokkaido University. Her research focuses on chemical communication in mammals, especially intra- and interspecific interactions around brown bear rub trees in Hokkaido.
During her visit, she explored her interest in koala rub trees and exchanged ideas with our team. Alongside her visit, a Japanese publishing project about koala biology is currently in development. A friend of Dr. Katsushima, working in the publishing industry in Japan, visited the sanctuary to photograph koalas and interview Tom for the upcoming book, which aims to introduce koala biology and conservation to the Japanese public.
Congratulations again to Dr. Kondo! We are excited to see where your research leads next.
